If I run browser chooser from the start menu it works, but if I click on a link anywhere I get the following error:

Process does not close after launching the browser. This is happening on two different laptops here at my office, both are running Windows 7 x64. The app behaves normally, except when I check task manager or process explorer it shows dozens of Browser Chooser.exe processes that have not terminated. The app still works, but once done it continues with a process (no GUI of course).

Currently I am using a scheduled task that runs every 15 minutes that does taskkill /f /im Browser* to keep my memory utilization under control.

Any suggestions or anyone else see this?

The configuration is fairly out-of-the-box.

Browser 1 is configured for Chrome.
Browser 2 is configured for firefox.
Browser 3 is configured for IE.
Browser 4 is configured for IE Tester
Browser 5 is configured for Chrome in Incognito mode.

Misc tab:
Open intranet URLS in: None
Open not defined URLs in: None
Everything else is unchecked.

Odd, I don't see this. I use browser choose in Win7 x64 and at least during my test right now once I closed the app the process went away. Do you have BC configured to automatically launch a browser for certain urls? How do you typically use it?

New build, 1.0.15 is broke on Win7 x64.

1.0.9 works just fine.

Ok, finally got it. At some point I had switched to portable mode, so I was editing the wrong copy of BrowserChooserConfig.xml.

This is a highly specific scenario, however I think there could still be a fix. I'm running a Mac OS host with a Windows 7 guest OS via Parallels. Parallels offers a feature where you can launch Mac OS applications from within the Windows environment. Really, it creates a simplified executable within a users home directory that points to the .app in Mac OS, which loads the application when selected from anywhere in Windows - for example, the start menu.

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Parallels\Shared Applications\Google Chrome (Mac).exe would be an example of one of these .exe wrappers.

Setting Browser Chooser to point to these "fake" .exe's will in fact launch the application. However, here is my problem. The URL of whatever was selected within Windows does not get passed along to the chosen browser and instead acts as if it's launching the application or switching to it if it's already active.

Any thoughts on how to get the URL to cross over to the selected browser?

You tried Billy's fix and it didn't work? I'm on 7 Ultimate x64 and it worked here, I don't see why it shouldn't work on Enterprise....

I tried to be slick and make the file read only, but then it FCs BC on ever run, whether manually run or loading via a clicked link.

FWIW: that file is located (on Windows 7 machines) in:

X:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\BrowserChooser, where X: is the drive containing the user tree and {username} is your login name.

I installed Browser Chooser and was getting this error when I clicked on a URL. I changed the following line in BrowserChooserConfig.xml:

and it seems to have fixed the fault.

Unfortunately, if I change the configuration in Browser Chooser and save the settings the above entry reverts back and I get the error again. However, at least I know what to do to fix it.

Note, if you add (for example) company.com to the URL list it will match www.company.com and server101.company.com. So perhaps you don't need a wildcard.
